An early start as left La Paz at 7.20am for a full day of traveling,
around Lake Titicaca and on to Puno, with spectacular views of the
countryside on the way. We stopped for lunch at Copacabana before
crossing the boarder in to Peru.
Located at 3830 m above sea level, Puno is the highest altitude of any place
we sleep on our tour and known for extreme weather conditions. When
we arrived around 3pm (after gaining an hour), the sun was shining
and...

Woken up early by a noisy donkey and then served breakfast at 7.15am, of
pancakes with jam. We washed up after breakfast and then finished
packing our stuff ready to walk back to the boat for 8am. Before we
left we said goodbye to the family which were around and then mum led
us to catch the boat.
We said our goodbyes and then left by boat to the floating islands of
the Uros people. We traveled across Lake Titicaca to the floating
islands, which ...
I finally have time to get this blog started! Let me start with a hearty ˇHola Amigos y Amigas! I'm writing to you from the town of Puno, Perú, right on the shores of famous Lake Titicaca. To recap briefly the last few days, here's what I've been up to: 1) Flew from Toronto to Lima last Friday night. Uneventful flight, though landing anywhere in the world at 2:30AM is not something I truly recommend - if you have a choice. It's not so much jet lag that gets you (Perú is just one hour behind T...
Puno, Peru hsbWe have just spent a few days in Puno and touring Lake Titicaca, which stradles Bolivia and Peru. Along the way our bus boarded a raft on the lake, not much bigger than the bus itself, and we watched it cross from a small powerboat, placing bets as to whether the bus would make it. Fortunately it did and 30 minutes later we were into Peru. Puno is much smaller than we imagined, we had heard a lot from people so I guess we thought it was going to be larger. Sitting on the edge of Titicaca it h...
Puno, Peru jamesandjulieWe left Cusco behind us shortly after 8.00 this morning and were certainly not sorry to see the back of the Hostel Centenario. Our minibus complete with mountain bikes on the roof rack climbed out of the town on the road to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. After four hours we reached the Rayas Pass at 4338 metres, dismounted from the bus and climbed onto our bikes for a 25 kilometre ride through some pretty dramatic countryside. A little over an hour later we stopped for a packed lunch an...
