Hotel Istra Rab

Just spent all day yesterday at the beach, alternating between sleeping on the shore and lazing on a lie-low on the ocean. beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky, clear blue ocean. exactly what we all needed to recharge after 15 days of non stop moving around. I think everyone that got swineflued is now recovered, so we should be good to go for the next 12 days :( until the end of the trip.

Back to Czech for a couple of days to regroup and copious amounts of laundry! Road trip to Croatia was pretty long - took us around 10.5 hours..sure it seemed a lot longer for Jarrad who drove the entire way.

Well worth it though. We have decided to leave the main island and Island hop to the bottom of Croatia ...

... had to at least wear pants..hehe. I went snorkelling at one stage, naked of course and came across about 1000 tiny fish... it then got me worried where they might swim and I had to cross my legs and swim with my arms only after that!

Our 2nd full day we woke up to a lot of wind and I was worried our pop up top would rip off so i pulled it down and top and tailed with kathleen downstairs. The wind didnt let up ...

... les poissons et éviter les piqûres d'oursins. Le paysage côtier est magnifique et l'eau limpide. Nous répèterons l'opération 1h30 de marche plus loin, puis sur le chemin du retour.

Cette journée nous a ouvert l'appétit : dîner dans une "spaghetteria" sur le port accompagné d'un succulent vin blanc et retour à la chambre pour une bonne nuit.

... le tout dans une charmante maison avec jardin tenue par un couple de retraité italo-croate, à 5 minutes du centre.

En septembre, le soleil se couche à 20h. Difficile pour nous car en France, c'est plutôt 21h. Tanpis, nous savourons notre 1er bain dans la mer un peu fraîche!

La journée a été longue, nous rentrons "chez nous" pour un petit pique-nique improvisé et une bonne nuit.

Great little place to relax, with plenty of beaches (topless, nude or otherwise), hiking, boating and more. Heavily touristed by northern Europeans, with lots and lots of skin on the beaches and boats, and a very interesting medieval town made for wandering tourists.

A short catamaran ferry ride and we landed in the town of Novalja on the nearby island of Pag but it is a world away from the quiet medieval Rab! Here the promenade was filled with tourist stalls one after the other; bars and restaurants blaring out their music, and all filled with people doing their best to consume the island's supply of alcohol. What a wonderful way to spend a day on an island. We walked for miles along and in the water, stopping often to admire the view and marvel at the colour of the water; found a local man to talk to about his little bit of paradise and a local ice cream parlour with thatched coverings and amazing views to enjoy our ice cream just out of the midday sun; the local park for a lunch picnic; and later an obligatory espresso at one of ...

... as I got off the ferry, I found the nearest tourist office and asked them to help me find a room. There are basically 2 options for accomodations on this island - expensive hotel or private room in someone's home. I obviously could only afford the latter. I was pointed to a nice building behind the tourist office. I was told to ring the door bell and an old lady would take care of me.
