I really liked this hotel. They had very nice dinners and it was right on the lake. There was no hot water though, and lots of bugs like spiders and scorpions.I guess you can expect that at any hotel here though.

If you go I would really recommend Isla Verde. Don't expect hot water & do expect giant spiders & scorpions on the walls of your cabin (you're on Lake Atitlan). The cabins/suites are super cute though and that side of the lake has great volcano views. The food is good, the staff is sweet, & the place is so incredibly tranquil. It's also very easy to get to by boat for a dollar or two (15Q from Panajachel, dropped off directly on the Isla Verde dock; or 10Q dropped at the Santa Cruz dock if you pack light). You can't get lost from the Santa Cruz dock. There are signs & it's a quick 7 minute walk along the lake.

Lago Atitlan Well my shuttle picked me up early!! That's always a good sign... We picked up a couple from Montreal, a New Zealander, another guy and a guy from japan who spoke only Spanish and Japanese! This would be a fun trip!! It went well, some construction on the roads out of Antigua made us late, but we arrived to a beautiful, sunny afternoon …

We bussed from the Queretaro bus station to our hostel, dropped off our things, then went out for some late night tacos. Absolutely delicious. I don't think Mexican tacos could ever get old. Then we fell asleep. In our dorm room...not at the taco stand. Our hostel, the Blue Bicycle, is run by three middle-aged women and is spotless. There is a terrace overlooking the city, hot showers, towels, a delicious breakfast, ...

I didn't touch the chilies or the salsa--the salsa the meat was sitting in was making me sweat enough as it was! The presentation of the food made me think of an octopus so I thought it was worth mentioning and showing. :) It was really good, though. I enjoyed it as I watched people in the plaza. ... role in the city's history. When the first revolutionaries had taken most of the town in the fall of 1810 the federalists made it their fort. It was soon taken by Hidalgo's forces with the brave action of Pipila mentioned above. Soon after the first revolution failed and its leaders killed, the skulls of the four principal leaders were hung for years from each corner in metal cages. The Alhondigo served as a prison for 100 years until recently being converted to a museum. ...
