... cold (12 degrees) And Akita isn't any better although luckily the rain stayed away today and I was able to look around without getting wet.

I am certainly not on a backpacker trail here. Even to the extent there are no hostels. I had to get a hotel room ( 2 star ) and pay a little more than hostel dorm prices. The 2 star here though is pretty good so I am not complaining ( too much)

Akita is quite a big city but ...

... tried this yet, but tomorrow I will have to to attend mass. It will be adventure for sure with my lack of Japanese.

I really enjoy the calmness of this place. I have been able to sit outside and listen to the birds in the morning. Akita is the perfect place to practice mindfulness and to rest your mind. I can't wait for the cherry blossoms. They say we have about another week!

... decided to walk around the lake and just because there wasn`t a path, didn`t mean we weren`t going to do it anyway!

Lake Tazawa stats:
depth: 430m (Japan`s deepest lake)
circumference: 20km
time walked: 4 hours 50 minutes (the large trees did slow us down a little)
clothes needed: all of them except our swimming costumes
