The oil is weighed and the remaining skin and seed extract becomes a brown mixture used to feed livestock. Out of 42 bags we had 2,000 Kg of olives that produced 318 liters of oil. Today we starting harvesting. The day of picking the olive off the ground are over. Today they use nets spread out over the area and the use a olive tree beater. It's a long shaft with a rotating head that has several rubber sticks that beat the tree branches and knock the olive off. What I thought was a peaceful harvest, is anything but. It sounds like we will start harvesting in a few ...

Today I went to the museum and looked at the findings from the Minoans at Knossos and Phaestos. Great tour with all kinds of amazing pieces. They were a head of their time in craftsmanship. They were the leaders in shipping and controlled the seas. There were several palaces on Crete and survived for about 3,000 years, before the volcanic eruption of Santorini whipped out the whole island around 1370 ...

I went to the palace of Pheastos. It is another Mayan ruins that was ruled by the son of Zeus. It was found about 5,000 years ago and is another amazing spectacle to skill of craftsmanship for the time. Not much is left, but the did find several artifacts during excavation. Two things remarkable to me are the gigantic pottery vases used for storage. They are about 4 feet ...
