One of few moderately priced hotels in Kinshasa

One of few moderately priced hotels in Kinshasa, and then only moderate for Kinshasa. Rooms are clean and have been freshened, but few windows will lock. Lots of mosquitoes on the pleasant grounds and in the reception area, bring your repellent. Rooms are sprayed daily, and air con works well. Pretty good wifi, but a strange ticket system to access it. Good restaurant, Belgian chef, food only a little overpriced. Reasonable value for money in Kinshasa.

This hotel is slowly being improved, and the room prices are rising with the improvements. The rooms have been freshened and are pleasant and clean. Air con worked well in our double room (306). The restaurant in the garden is pleasant and the food prepared under the guidance of a European chef.

        OK, improving

Improving slightly, about the best one can reasonably and safely do in Kinshasa. Like everything in this city it's overpriced and somewhat cobbled together. Staff is pleasant and helpful.

Today was a very full Feast day. Justin came to the hotel just before 09:00 for the drive to the hall. I was happy he instructed the driver to avoid the putrid pond on the way. We made a slight detour, which took us by the hall we used to rent. I was shocked to see a line of shanties near the walls of the stadium across the street from the old hall …

I had decided that today I would have an outing with three of the local leaders who do quite a lot serving all year round, even more so when I visit. I decided we’d visit the Lola ya Bonobo: the paradise of Bonobos, an sanctuary, orphanage and care center for these great apes, just on the outskirts of Kinshasa.

        First, I worked …

Today was mostly a work day, with the New Testament Passover service in the evening. Internet access came and went at random time which made work difficult, but I did what I could offline. About 3:00 Justin came to the hotel with a taxi he'd arranged. It was a small right-side drive car; I’m not sure why they have those here. In East Africa …

This morning I rested from that last two-combined-into-one long day, about 36 hours with two hours' sleep. The breakfast area in the gardens was full of Europeans, mostly Belgians, judging by their accents. There were more than I’ve ever seen at the Hotel Invest, which is, I believe, the only European-managed hotel in Kinshasa that isn’ …

I've started what will be, if all goes as planned, a four-week trip through several countries in Africa and Europe. The preparations have been going on for about two months with some arrangements still ongoing.

To prepare for such a trip, I start roughing in an itinerary about 6-8 weeks in advance. We take into account local needs, most …
