A Sabbath in Kinshasa

This morning we were ready to go by 9:00 am, when Justin arrived to accompany us to the hall we used for services which is only 10 minutes from our hotel. As soon as we came down to the lobby he left to find a taxi, which arrived in about 5 minutes. It was a typical Kinshasa taxi, painted mostly blue, and in the usual shape, which is to say …

This morning Marjolaine wasn't feeling well, having awakened in the middle of the night and not having been able to get back to sleep. It was going to be a long day, and we have a couple of very grueling days and nights coming up, so I encouraged her not to push herself. We have a lot of Africa left to cover.

Justin and André arrived at 9: …

We used the morning to rest a bit and for me to get caught up on some office work. After lunch Justin and André came to have a meeting with me about the state of the church members in Kinshasa and the needs here. There are many. People are having a nearly impossible time just to get by. Prices keep rising for everything from food to rent, but …

This morning we repacked in preparation for our flights to the Congo, and had a hearty breakfast, since we knew we'd either miss lunch or have a late one on a plane. We checked out just before 11:00 when Pierre arrived to take us to the airport with a short stop at the new house where his family has moved. We were very happy for them to have the …

Today was a catch-up day, a meeting, some counseling, some rest and preparation for the ongoing trip.

We had an easy morning. I slept in later than usual and really enjoyed it. During breakfast the peacock had his tail feathers on display. There was also a fantastic looking bird, all flaming colors, with tiger's stripes on his neck. I don …

This hotel is slowly being improved, and the room prices are rising with the improvements. The rooms have been freshened and are pleasant and clean. Air con worked well in our double room (306). The restaurant in the garden is pleasant and the food prepared under the guidance of a European chef.

    OK, improving

Improving slightly, about the best one can reasonably and safely do in Kinshasa. Like everything in this city it's overpriced and somewhat cobbled together. Staff is pleasant and helpful.
