Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel InterContinental Miami
My husband and I stayed here over the 4th of July weekend 2004. The hotel and staff were all more than friendly. The hotel is well kept and the housekeeping is superb. If you are staying here for South Beach, it will probably be more cost effective to rent a car. It's about a $30 cab ride from the airport and a $20 ride each way to the South Beach clubs and restaurants. The ONLY problem is parking. There is meteted parking for $1.25/hour with a 2 hour max from 7am to 2am. Parking is free between 2am and 7am. With the Bayfront right in front of the hotel, events will make parking impossible. Your best bet is to valet park for $24 a night. Other than that, we know where we will be staying whenever in Miami! Excellent choice, first class hotel!
Great place! We stayed there for the New Year in December 2003. Truly 4 star. Interior, decor, toiletries, linens, loved the bathroom!
Felt very tired upon arrival following delay on internal flight from NY and extremely tough schedule in New york for previous four days. What a pleasure it was to check in smoothly and enter the excellent room allocated, it really had everything i needed including an amazing view of Biscayne Bay and a soundtrack playing in the background to die for. Only negative was I only had two nights in the hotel prior to returning to the Uk. The hospitality in the Club lounge was fantastic.
Taxis are a plenty if you want a trip to the Night life of Ocean Drive, Mango's Tropical Cafe is a must if you fancy a lively night, otherwise leisurely 10 minute walk to Marina is a pleasure.
Can't wait for next trip to Miami, I know where I'll be staying
I expected a lot more from InterContinental. The computer system was down when we checked in and they were unable to verify the rate. Had I known what I was to be charged I would have gone elsewhere. In the end, no consideration was given and, with a plane to catch, decided not to press the matter, but I will never stay at a InterContinental again without written verification of the rate, including the undisclosed taxes.
Wonderful stay at the Intercontinental
Stayed at Intercontinental Club level from 4-8/4-11-04. Our wedding aniversary. From the moment we entered the hotel, everything was perfect. Complimentary champagne received us when we entered our room.
The most beautiful view of the Bay and the Port of Miami. Francois, at the Club, made us feel at home. Will stay there from now on when we go to Miami.
What an excellant facility! My wife and I were in town for Phish's New Year's Eve run right down the street at American Airlines Arena. We booked this hotel for 4 nights. We had a breathtaking view of Biscayne Bay, South Beach, and, beyond that, the Great Atlantic. If we looked to the left of our huge window (with this awesome, fat windowsill that was big enough for several people to sit on) we could see the park at Biscayne Bay. It was set up as a Christmas village. Our room was 20 or so flights up and the view alone was worth the stay. This hotel is just a stone's throw from a lot of great places to eat. This will be the only hotel that I will ever stay at in Miami for the rest of my life.
Nice facility, horrible situation
4-7 March 2004: Clerk failed to mention the Ultra Fest (part of Winter Music Conference) that is taking place at Bayfront Park (a stone's throw from the Intercontinental). Amplified sounds from 7 stages didn't just permeate our 25th floor room, they made it vibrate like a tuning fork. Hotel's response?.. Well, it stops at midnight. Wrong! They didn't quit until around 1:30 a.m.
Beware, Bayfront Park will be a menace to hotel guests with any amplified musical performance. I'm no civil engineer, but this is a structural problem. The amplified noise is worse at higher levels than in the lobby. I couldn't make this up.
Marvellous hotel! and I can see it on Miami Vice.. :-)
This is a great hotel. Service is top-notch, rates reasonable, rooms clean and good condition, location close to Metromover which connects to many places (also TriRail through connection etc.) if you don't have a car.
The building has been on this scenic location for ages (in Miami time that is) and I spotted it recently when watching Miami Vice reruns! :) It's also visible on many postcards etc.
The view from the room was great, you could see 20 boats moving at the same time, and also Caribbean Cruisers stopped nearby. The lobby is worth seeing, and there is a comfortable little shop or 2 in the main floor. Swimming pool is on it's own floor in the roof! (middle of the building)
If staying anywhere else than SoBe, stay here. Definitely.
I want to live at the Intercontinental
My wife and I recieve an e-mail for a great internet rate for this 4-5 star hotel. It seemed too good to be true. I booked the maximum, 3 nights, and when we arrived it was great and only got better. I could not think of one thing that I would have like more other than to stay an extra 3 days. The staff were A-1 and the accomodations were up to par in every area, pool, fitness center, dinner, breakfast, etc. Thanks, Intercontinental!!!
I wasn't expecting anything other than the usual 'conference hotel' when I booked in here with my husband and 2 kids but was v surprised to find staff that couldn't be more helpful, delicious and reasonably priced meals and a superb location - within a couple of minutes walking distance one way is the free monorail that can get you all around the city - right outside the hotel is a large parkland area and within 5 minutes the other way is the harbour surrounded with restaurants and small stores - the 'Disney' store and the 'Quicksilver' stores were big hits. The pool is not a kids pool but mine really enjoyed it and I enjoyed its great location out on a windy deck level right next to the hotel's informal restaurant. We upgraded for a v reasonable cost to an enormous suite - with a large communal area our separate bedroom and a room for the kid. They had their own room/bathroom/TV so we all had some sanity! Would strongly recommend this hotel.
