10,000 steps to Junagadh

... as if he never realised tourism existed and I was the first, it was a moving experience, he was that grateful.

After many hand shakes and even more photo's, we decided to make our way back down to the bottom and maybe back to bed. By now the blanket of cloud had started to disperse revealing a view that stopped us dead in our tracks, where we really that high? on the way up we were more concerned with staying alive than anything else, so ...

... Eric got a movie of them taking off. And I got a movie of them standing in the water and fishing. At the beach I walked through a small river to get to the Arabian Sea which was about two km/1 mile from the entrance. At Narara, we saw many ghost crabs and birds. We made it about ¾ of the way to the sea and then stopped because the beach became muddy and rocky. Actually, I stepped in the mud covered in sea weed, which by the way, looked like grass and I ...

Delhi to Ahmedabad to Jamnagar

Note: We are experiencing technical difficulties. We have the wireless USB, but don't have all the instructions/information to make it work, so haven't been able to update our blog as we'd promised. Hopefully this problem will be fixed soon and we'll update much more often. Janpal: We came from our early morning flight from Delhi and got right into the waiting car. The flight was a whole hour late leaving Delhi after rescheduling it to 15 ...

... to stay inconspicuous but there is no way of hiding. The situation is getting more volatile and anything / anyone could explode at any moment. When I crouch to literally stay low I get hassled by the pilgrims as I am blocking their view. Things get thrown at me from the crowd as they want me to move on, which I totally understand as they have been sitting here for 4-5 hours waiting for this moment. If I stay I get things thrown at me, if I get up then I'm going to get beaten ...

ONE WONDERFUL WEEK DOWN...

... He gets me, Jilly and the various fam members we find along the way from A to B with so many laughs along the way. From Bhavnagar he took us to the beautiful Portuguese-influenced seasise town of Diu for some serious chill time. The beaches were beautiful as were the churches and we even saw a massive 500 year old tree! We went on to Gir National Park after this and although we didn't see the lions that were supposedly lingering around, we saw what ...

... depicting Gandhi's life. Probably the biggest lesson to learn from Gandhi's life is how one man can make such a difference whilst facing such adversity, how one man can literally halt an empire. Not that I'm going to achieve what Gandhi did, but it puts it into perspective that if one man can achieve so much then it gives hope and inspiration to everyone else in achieving their own dreams however big or small. In comparison it makes my goals seem insignificance, but ...

India Nature: Gir Sanctuary and National Park

... an increase from fewer than twenty lions. Once the Asiatic Lion ranged from Syria to the plains of India, but habitat destruction, disease, and hunting slowly reduced and fragmented its range. In 1901, Gir was the last site of the Asiatic Lion, with an estimate of only 20 lions remaining. Luckily, after the publication of a local daily letter concerning the demise of the lions, Nawab of Junagadh cancelled a Viceroy's hunt ...

In search of the Asiatic Lion

Back on the dodgy buses we headed to the Safari Park at Sasan Gir to hunt down the last few remaining Asiatic Lions in the world. We were unsuccesful! Was it really worth the 10 hour journey...? Probably, we had great Palak Paneer (Spinach and cheese) curry to make up for the dissapointment!

... places including a romantic spot where you can watch the sunset. After a few days relaxing by the water front, i decided to head to Ahmedabad in the state of Gujurat to explore further. I was going to meet with Dimitri from Paris but he had decided to spend the weekend exploring too, so instead of stopping in Ahmedabad i kept on going for 21 straight hours to get to a small place called Junagadh. At first it ...
