Woke up to the beautiful island of Crete in Greece and went on a tour of Knossis palace which was fantastic. Our guide Rene was an attractive greek lady who told us all the history of the Minoans (the first settlers of Europe) that were on the island. A massive earthquake destroyed them but their palaces and homes were still sort of standing.

... Music and singing and dancing accompanied all of this! Ended up sleeping most of the afternoon so now feeling ready for dinner and tonight's entertainment ( a celebration of France). Last nights show was songs from Italy.the shows are of a very high standard, singers are brilliant, dancing is very professional and costume as are fantastic. ... speaking tour so not much learnt about the locals on that trip! We swapped to an English bus at the next stop and now we have the history lesson sorted! We had time to wander through a couple of lovely wee villages along the way and as the sun was reluctant to shine today we were back wearing jackets! We walked through the gorge to Aghios Ioannis, an area which is cleared but has magnificent old trees, a church, fresh water springs and for summer, a tavern. The area was deserted but it is a very popular spot for locals in summer. We are in a valley and the mountains rise up all around us. The little village is called Zaros.
Every day pretty much goes the same. Eat, sleep, read, eat and sleep. We've got another 9 days here; it's so incredibly relaxing. As it is low season, we have the whole place, Eleonas, to ourselves. It has 20 self contained chalets but there is also a restaurant and a cafe/tavern. ...
