The Cathedral took 632 years to complete. During the war, 90% of the central city was destroyed. Eau de cologne was originated here in 1709 by the Farina family. They have excavated the Jewish settlement a little more than on my last trip and plan to open an underground museum within 2 years. We visited 7 Christmas markets as the weather was nice. Low 40s and breezy. We also went to the chocolate ...

When I suggested a weekend in Germany visiting Christmas markets and sampling the 'Gluwhein' my husband, who went to school in Rinteln as a child, was thrilled to take me along and show off his German language skills. I have never been to Germany and didn't know what to expect, so I took full advantage of being a travel agent and booked us on a great deal to Cologne for a 2 night/3 day break with flights and 4* city centre hotel for £125 per person. Once I had acclimatised ...

First let me just say that driving in Germany is NOT for me!!!! I have went to young speed racer to grandma driver in the past 10 years and have no intention of going back. No speed limit and no street lights on the autobahn at night is so scary. Two lanes and if you try and pass anyone u better sure as heck make there are no headlights in sight because ...

... riverboats...it's numerous attractive bridges and it's passing barges is a lively place.. Unfortunately it's popular river crossing cable car attraction, built over 50 years ago does not run in the winter months. It would be a great view of the city also.. (€4.50 well spent too)

Thanks for the couple of days within your inner city Cologne.. You truly are a captivating city!

... menus that aren't in English is a little bit of a gamble, because you never really know 100% what you're going to get. I thought I was ordering a plate with fruit salad, bread, and scrambled eggs. What I actually ordered was a plate with fruit salad and bread (got that part right) and a Kinder egg. For anyone that doesn't know what a Kinder egg is (they're illegal in the US, so it's okay), they're chocolate eggs with ...
