... have to see! We got back around 12:30/1am and were exhausted so we fell asleep quickly.
Sunday
We woke up at 5am for our morning boat/canal tour (included) (we were so tired it was painful getting up) and we took a boat (with 6 Spaniards who were 15 minutes late ughhh (thats time I could have been sleeping!-1 of which likes walking around with no shirt and he looked like a grizzly bear!) It took about 5 minutes to get from the main canal where our ...
... won’t be fun” he called. My face must have dropped – what had we forgotten? Luckily one of our group came to the rescue with some DEET cream and we smeared it over legs and arms ready to face the fierce onslaught of mosquitoes that awaited.
Walk was probably a misnomer as it was more of a paddle as the path became flooded in areas and we were sloshing through 3 or 4 inches of water at times. Spiders (my pet hate) obviously loved the environment ...
Tortuguero, Province of Limon, Costa Rica flitterjahrAileen and I got very excited, when we were about to leave for our first big journey through Costa Rica together with our friend Lars, that we met last summer on the island in Croatia working with RUF. We got all tickled about the new places and things we were about to discover and it all started up on a friday morning, 5 o´clock, sitting in bus towards San José. Lars already got there the night before and got to know the cute little family of our friend Alonso, who gave us the warmest ...
Tortuguero, Province of Limon, Costa Rica aileenchen... out to be a little more promising when I went on a hike through the park. While there I saw Howler monkey's, Spider Monkey's, poison dart frogs, and a tarantula. My last day on the island was spent relaxing and checking out the nightlife. Currently I'm in the city on Cahuita, still on the Caribbean Side. My next stop I hope to make way up to the Central Valley area and than over to the Pacific Side.
Tortuguero, Province of Limon, Costa Rica wanderer_travel... niggling feeling before taking it, but i'm in the frame of mind that lessons are good to learn...not in this case...but practice certainly is). $40 down the drain for ****-all return.
My *****ing and moaning (above) aside, i really enjoyed Bocas. Cool place, hostel and people. I met 2 Czech girls on the was there, and a Czech guy in the hostel...who also turned out to be a fellow finance peep (and not the only one either, we're all avoiding the depressing real ...
... families. Day 6: -We went on a horseback riding tour of the rainforest. It was fun, but I spent most of the time paying attention to the horse as opposed to enjoying the scenery because it was a bumpy ride. -We were at a dairy farm and some of us made cheese :) -Then we went to another farm where they showed us sugar canes and coffee plants, explaining how sugar and coffee were made. **Pictures will be added soon*
Monteverde, Province of Limon, Costa Rica angelalivengood... chairs outside the rooms to sit and enjoy the scenery in. Last night was pretty low key, the group going out to dinner and the vast majority dropping off some laundry to replenish a much needed clean clothes supply. Today a few opted to have a quiet day and check out the town, but most of us headed further up the mountain to one of the many ziplining spots. Since I'd already done it in Guatemala a few years ago (and ...
Monteverde, Costa Rica littleengine... with cancer-inducing levels of DEET) were no deterent for these little f....ers. I stayed for two weeks and could have stayed longer but the sandflies were definitely not conducive to wanting to extend one's stay. Would I do it again? Yes but it's a lot of money to get over there so I probably wouldn't do it in a hurry again. Also, the people really made the difference and I don't know if I could be that lucky twice??
