Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... fall asleep at the table, me included. So we started to make a move just after 11.30pm, then we found out we had to wait for the bus. We had a least another 30min plus wait for the bus. People were sitting on the curb, falling asleep, it wasn't a pretty site. Finally the bus arrived, and we were on our way to the hotel. By the time we got to bed it was nearly 1am. To our surprise, today Menaggio hosted a festival along the lakeside walk – lots and lots of vendors with their wares – except that their wares were mostly local cheeses, pastas, oils, wines, candies – and most were giving samples.
