    ... middle of nowhere. Adam finds his dream lunch of a sloppy dish filled with beans, potatoes and huge smelly sausage. I find mine, blueberry strudel. Life is so good! Apparently every Slovenian lunch must start with a shot of the local Grappa. The ride home was much easier.

    ... traditional wooden boats propelled by two large oars, which for €12pp will take you from the lakeside to the island at the end of the lake.....but only if there is a full load! The departure point at this end of the lake is the best bet if you are on your own as it is where the tour buses come, and it is the shortest distance to the island.so you are more likely to persuade a boatman to take you along! Once on the island there are 99 steps to negotiate up ...

    ... and woodland mushrooms. Feeling in need for a break from the heat, we ventured to Alesso to find a spot to swim in the river. After taking a wrong turn, Dale took us up a rather precarious mountain road to, literally, nowhere (yes, I did sing Talking Heads' 'Road to Nowhere' on our ascent). Oops, our first wrong turn, one of many i'm sure. 20 minutes back down and we find the place for a very cold but refreshing Alpine mountain ...

We have lunch again at the Park Cafe on the waterfront before retiring to our shady balcony to rest a while before walking round to St Martin's church which overlooks the lake up in the village.
