... to the keeper! So this morning we thought we'd better get a vignette and bought one at a service station in Kufstein.......better late than never! Well we hope so anyway!! We travelled south through the beautiful Austrian alps and then on through the Dolomites in Italy. All this beauty and wonderful autobahns and autostradas come at a cost. There were many laughs as we tried to work out how each toll booth operated but it all worked out okay even if we are a bit poorer. ...

... a cup of expresso. Driving back to Bellano we parked again at the train station and walked into town to view the Orrido which we had missed. It was a fast flowing water course that hammered down a steep gorge and was used to power a hydro electric plant. It was quite impressive and you wouldn't believe that it was right in the middle of the town as it was hidden by a high fence and an iron gate. We had to wait for them to open the gate ...

I imagine it may have been a dungeon at some stage although there was a stone trough down there so they may have kept animals in there. After taking lots of photos we stopped for a drink at the cafe at the castle and then walked back through the town to our car. It was just starting to drizzle a bit so we had timed our visit ...

We are starting to get the hang of deciphering other languages. It is not too difficult to work out some of the Italian road signs, although their speed signs are very confusing and feature several different speeds within a few metres of travel. Everyone seems to speed here, even though there are supposed to be speed cameras everywhere that send pictures back to the police who contact the hire company who gives your details back to the police and then they just charge your ...

... heat forced us back, we jumped in the car and headed to Varenna, where we have rented an apartment by lake como. Dad's driving as well as the always winding roads made everyone sick, although we managed to sit back and enjoy the coastline views. As soon as we crossed the border into Italy, all of the sudden we couldn't understand anything! Thank god for the GPS... Around lunch we stopped at an "autoroute" to grab a bite to eat and stretch our ...
