SULTANA VIAJES MXICO > JAPON > VIAJES A JAPON

TOKYO , JAPON

Night in Matsumoto

Settling in in Matsumoto. Spent about 4 1/2 hours on trains today, slow one from Nikko to Utsunomiya, a shinkansen to Omiya, another shinkansen to Nagano, then another slow train to Matsumoto. Signs of civilization at the Matsumoto station - a Starbucks!

Hoping that I can find the castle tomorrow. The ryokan has bicycles to lend, so I'm going to try and ...

We heart monkeys :)

... ones were burning hot. It was very relaxing and you could see a nice view of the valley and the monkeys hopping about around you. As we were right at the bottom of the valley we could see people really high above us but they couldnt see us very well, which was only a good thing. We then went back to the park and stayed for a while longer before getting the bus and train to Nagano, the main city of that ...

Still Awake!!

... The Japanese students asked us questions, and we asked the Japanese students questions. They were all anonymous, which was nice. The questions ranged from what is your favorite foods to do you think we speak english well, to "would you ever date a Japanese person?" It was great to see how curious our new friends had become and it was amazing to realize how much we don't really know about each others cultures. Although the Japanese are ...

... about each others culture. There were so many questions, confusion, and I think in the end, a bit of enlightenment. I still don't understand the culture completely and feel as if I never will. I don't think an outsider is privileged to such information. Regardless, I think our talk formed a strong bond and I hope we have more like it in the future.

Kamikochi: Total Washout--Literally

... the storm would lighten up, if only for a moment so I could see some of the mountains I knew were around us. But it was not to be. This cannot be sugarcoated--it was completely miserable, probably the worst hike I have ever done. No good sights, huge gusts of wind roaring down the river valley, ice on you eyeballs and despite my best efforts of avoiding the slush puddles and pond-like potholes, walking in ice cold socks was not pleasant in the least. Plus when I ...

Official ALIEN

Yep - I've been here 7 weeks and they have already registered me as an alien! Well, at least it means I can join the library and it is also the first step to getting a work visa. I don't really want to work, but it seems the easiest way to stay here for longer than 3 months. So I've accepted a 1 day a fortnight job teaching 10 year-olds English. Trying not to overdo it... Talking of the library, today I had the pleasure of using the ...
