    ... from Chambord, smaller and a fortress on the riverbank, but at the same time more homely and liveable. Lovely small grounds and gardens with superb views around the city and of course across the river that it was guarding. Much of the ‘old’ castle has gone, there were many wooded building on solid wall foundations, but they have long gone. Restful place though. We caught the bus from the train station and made the first stop at the Palace and residence of Prince Albert III.     ... big Italian influence, near the border & I think at one stage it was part of Italy. Nearly every place to eat is Italian & I still can't stomach pasta after the Florence incident (which is what I'm calling it now).     ... Villefranche-sur-mer We walked along and low and behold came across and older Kiwi couple from Wellington who saw Scott's tshirt which was Keep Calm Piri on from the World Cup! So we had a bit of a chat to them, they had been walking up through a lot of the smaller villages above Monaco. Really enjoyed the short stop there and was well worth doing.
