First full day at sea

A travel blog entry by patty.mcefee

... It’s kind of fun to walk on the track, with the ship swaying a bit and the wind either pushing you along or giving some resistance. There were quite a few others who were also walking, and some who were running. I walked 5 times around; I should/could have done more but it does feel a little strange to keep walking by the same people lying in the deck chairs—ha!

At lunch back in the Windjammer Café, I managed to ask two ladies if I could ...

Day 79-81 - Vamos Barcelona!

... back into bed. So I do. I write a little bit, organise my hostel accommodation for the next few days in Barcelona and download some movies / TV episodes. It makes me feel like I’ve done stuff. It does not help that Lutty, my couchsurfing host, is being just as lazy and has decided to watch movies all day. Eventually around 6pm, I force myself to see the outside world. I wander the streets for a couple of hours, sit by the fountains at Placa de Catalunya, ...

Eventually it cleared up and we went for a lovely stroll along the harbour and had the best Paella I've ever eaten at a place called Can ...

Started off with our free breakfast (cereal and juice), not flash but such a help to our minimal daily budget, then headed to reception for the free walking tour. Gotta love these, great introduction to the city and a bit of the history before checking ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Icaria Hotel Barcelona

    Excellent Hotel

    from

We stayed for 5 nights at this hotel in May 2005. The hotel staff greeted us as we arrived and were very helpful throughout our stay, offering us advice on places to see and the best way to get there. Our room was on the top floor, it was spotlessly clean, very spacious and modern with great views of Barcelona and was amazing for the 89euro a night we paid. The hotel is located 5 minutes in a taxi from Las Ramble costing approx 5 euro. The beach is about a 10-minute walk. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back to this Hotel again.

    Great place for the price!

    from

We stayed at the hotel for 4 days while in Barcelona. The hotel is very cute and modern. Great size bathrooms, and very modern furniture. It's also in a great location as far as walking to restaurants, Port Olympic, and there is a bus station outside the hotel.

There are a few recommendations I have the first is very, very important: Don't order a hamburger from the restaurant or for room se rvice. They charge you ALOT and if you are American you will not like the beef they use. You can feel the tendons while you chew and it tastes horrible. Try to get a room as high as possible due to the street noise. Room service will be stingy with the towels so you may have to request more.

Overall, a good place for the price. We payed $125.00 American dollars per night.

    Classy, modern Hotel

    from

The Icaria is a very shiny, modern hotel within 5 minutes walk of Port Olimpic and 25 minutes walk of La Ramblas, but it is in a peaceful location, one block away from the beach front.

Staff are attentive and speak good English. Rooms are large and ultra modern, with wide-screen TVs, hifi, and very spacious bathrooms.

Free high-speed internet is provided. (I view high-speed internet as almost as important as a bed in my room these days!)

I stayed for a 2 day business trip, but I would imagine that the Icaria would make a great base for tourists that don't want to actually stay in the noisy melee of La Ramblas, but want easy access to the beach and tourist areas.

The Icaria is certainly the nicest Hotel that I have used in Barcelona over the past year.

    Good hotel an staff.

    from

New modern hotel, good sized rooms, large beds and clean. Breakfast - good variety from fruit, cereal, meats and cooked items. Friendly and helpful staff who can speak English. Quiet location, for trips into Central Barcelona use Bus Turistic, stop is a couple of blocks away, short cut via Shopping Mall to the right of the front of the hotel. Stop is under the two tallest blocks in Barcelona. 30 minute walk into the La Rambla along the sea front, a pleasant walk which can then take you into the main areas.

    Great Base to explore Barcelona

    from

We spent 4 great nights in Barcelona. The hotel is 10 minutes walk from the Metro station. The breakfast had a good variety of dishes, (cereals to meats). The staff were very helpfull. Hotel is quiet a night, but still a short walk to busy Port Olympic and 30 minute walk to Port Vell. Loved the Old Town tapas bars, well worth a visit. Beautiful city, hope to visit again.

Nice Modern Hotel, just needs to work the kinks out.

    from

As soon as this hotel gets the little issues worked out, it will be a flawless place to stay.

    Icaria Hotel

    from

I have just returned from a weekend in Barcelona. This hotel is superb, in a great location(for walk into Las Rablas or Getting the Metro) Staff were more than friendly. I would stay here again on my next visit. Very close to the bars and restaurants of the Marina and the Casino.

    Hotel was very good value.

Not bad, but could do better!

    from

As a Scot and an honourary Yorkshire woman, I couldn't miss the chance of staying in a brand new 4 star hotel on a '5 nights for the price of 4' deal with Superbreaks!

    A great new hotel

    from

We spent three very enjoyable days in Barcelona (from 15 Jan 2005), staying at this brand new 4 star hotel. The Icaria is situated in a quiet residential area in the Olympic Village . It is only about a five minute walk to the very lively Olympic Port, with a wide selection of bars and restaurants. Central Barcelona is a 20 to 30 minute walk. The rooms are very nice with large comfortable beds and well equiped bathroom.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet is excellent

    Highly recomended!
