Montenegro, the newest country in the world

... we walked out of the bathroom, we noticed a feral cat really different than regular feral cats- this one reminded me of my cousin Tracey’s- with really long back legs, no tail, and a different build. (I think they are Egyptian cats?) The cat’s back feet were even much larger than normal. I’m sure he could jump really high. We tried to pet him but he wouldn’t let us. After this we knew we were ...

Budva, the city of beautiful girls and parrrrddddi

Hi again!

I arrived in Budva today, after a grrreat day hh.. I didn´t know it was that easy in Montenegro, though everybody told me it is not. After grabbing my stuff from my sleeping place, i started walking to the highway, on my way there, the first lift stopped ON the road, dropping me at the entrance of the motorway.. I had to wait approximatly 2 minutes, then a italian couple picked me up.. They shared juice ...

What It's Like to Chill with the Most Ruthless Men

... left, Darko's car required maintenance. We didn't have enough cash on hand left to pay for the needed repairs so I called Arnold Stark, my fiancée in the states, asking him to please wire us five hundred dollars cash to Montenegro; he did. This is a fact that Arnold himself can verify being that he alone possesses the charge card receipt for wiring us the money through Western Union to a town not far from Budva. With Darko's car repairs complete, we returned home for Beograd. On the ...

Coastal Town of Budva Montenegro

... but a bit chaotic from all of the beach bums. Spent the night on the boardwalk which was lined with stall after stall of perfumes, DVDs, gelateris, night clubs, and strip clubs. Much better in the morning though. Walked down to the old town after parting ways with Daniel (he went on to Dubrovnik). The town is called Stari Grad, a walled city with winding alleyways. Only spent a few hours there though since we decided to leave a day early for Kotor.

... with us, but we were all by ourselves on the other side, and it felt like our little discovery. That night we went back to the same restaurant as the night before (a habit we've gotten into when we find a place we like - makes us feel "at home," at least temporarily) and rested up for the whopping one-hour bus ride to Budva the next day. If you're headed to Kotor: 1) Definitely stay the night. You can do it as a day trip from Budva, or maybe even Dubrovnik, but you'll be ...

... believe since the town looked very dry and not nearly as lush as many other places. Cetinje had a monastery, former presidents mansion and a couple of museums but nothing very exciting or interesting. From Cetinje we went to Lovcen National Park which was the place that I was most looking forward to. There is an unbelieveable mausoleum built in 1974 dedicated to Petar II Petrovic Njegos (1813-1851). He was the country's most beloved ruler and a poet who wanted to be buried ...

Down the Montenegrin "riviera"

Edging my way on down the Montenegrin coastline a little, I'm now staying in the big resort town of the region. Well, Budva's actually even smaller in population than Kotor, but it's an absolute boomtown in terms of construction, hotels and tourist numbers. Much of it is domestic or from neighboring countries, but there are a few Russians, French and Germans about as well. On the surface it looks like a sprawl of new hotels and tourism development, but ...

Leap of Faith

... said, "that was positively awful!" And swam to the shore. Then Dave jumped into the water again followed by the Kiwi. I moved to the cliff edge. I don't know why, but it seemed important that I jump once more. Perhaps everything Travis had said, though he ridiculed it, was true. This was one of those defining moments. Not necessarily as a course of event that will shape my life, but as an ultimate test to my character and will. Was I made of strong ...

... town we'd passed on our way to Kotor, and then up over a spectacular winding mountain road. It was a good thing I decided to take my down jacket, because as we rose we were met with snow by the side of the road, hinting that the weather was much chillier than on the coast. We passed a number of small villages and tiny cottages along the way, which showed a very different Montenegro to the cafes in Kotor's Stari Grad. The rough grey mountains were quite rugged, and the grey skies ...

"Dubrovnik: The cat's meow, the city of King"

... As our meal concluded, the waiter spilled a full glass of red wine on the German diner to our left, who was clearly not pleased with the experience. Suffice to say that Levanta has something great going on in the kitchen, but could use an upgrade in the customer-facing staff. It is strange that none of the staff spoke good English (or German), given the tourist population here, and the fact that there is no shortage of very adept speakers in the local population. We were ...
