Arrival in Barcelona!

After just about FOURTEEN hours of continuous travel, we have all arrived in Barcelona in one piece & in relatively good health. One of the girls that arrived earlier than my group was pick-pocketed on the bus, while on the way to the hotel. Her passport, international student identification card, and a good sum of money were taken. Luckily, everything but the cash is replaceable & it served as a good learning experience. I am very nervous about something like that happening to me - s...

Barcelona - Day 1

Day One Well after an extremely long flight. We all started congretaing at different airports around the world till our group just got bigger. 3 in dallas, 8 or 9 in London then we all finally met up at the hotel wilson in Barcelona, Spain. People there drive absolutely nuts. Majority of the transportation is on mopeds and motorcycles. Cars are abundant but mopeds are the majority. The streets are really beautiful, but... we were staying in the upidy part of town. Strip of all real expensive ...

My Last Night in Barcelona...

... some lemon on them and managed to finish them off, admitedly with a bit of ketchep because they were relatively tasteless, but I didn´t want to waste food that I had paid for... Thankfully they were filling! The meatballs on the other hand were really quite tasty. They came in a tomato sauce with peas and some chewy white stuff (some kind of tofu maybe?) Lastly, I went to see the Museum of the History of the City. It´s not one of the ...

The Home of Gaudi (and Manuel from Fawlty towers)

... ends just before the sea front. Of course it's not all discount hamsters and Hola! Magazine though, the bottom half of the street has a more sinister side, with the usual collection of sex shops and peep shows present. I was walking back up the street as the sun set and was stopped in my tracks by a woman who I can only fairly describe as a little on the large side. "You tourist?" "Yes" "Want unisex *******?" "No thank you" (Unisex? What the ****? Best ...

... one in Barcelona. I thought it was some huge office building.... HUGEMONGOUSGIGANTICMEGAGRANDEAYYYY office building but nope! It's just the department store... Katie and I wanted to get skinny jeans and trying those things on had to be the most depressing moment of my life. We are sooo fat compared to the skinny putas here. They are all so thin it makes it harder for us to find clothes to cover our fat culos. But I did find a pair that I fit... I just need to do ...

Las Ramblas

... can,or cooing over the hamsters and rabbits at one of the pet stalls. As for the human statues, they are almost synonymous with Las Ramblas and much of the fun seems to involve attempting to work out how they managed to put their costume/ toilet/ fruit tree/ tilted ladder together. Some of those that never fail to make an appearence are: the two skeletons riding a bike; the lady from South East Asia dressed as a fruit tree/fruit stall; a native American Indian who ...

Matt Does Barcelona: Volume II

... macchiato. Let me just say, Spanish coffee is terrific! As a Certified Coffee Master for Starbucks, I found myself doing a tasting on the coffee. The first word that came to mind--arboreal. Now, for those of you who just reached for your dictionaries, I will define. That is an adjective that pertains to trees. I detailed the image in my mind with a couple more sniffs of the aroma ...

... pedestrian/tourist area in the city, La Rambla and the old city, are great for walking around, getting cheap tapas at any hour, sipping san gria or doing some serious shopping. The locals are very friendly and most people speak some english in the heart of the city. Even with upwards of 6 million inhabitants, BCN has a small city feel with narrow streets, many fountains and plazas and very few tall buildings getting in the way. The climate and ...
