We've had a great day today, helped by sunshine and dryness, even though we were a bit cold at times! We took a train to Olsztynek, about 30km south. After ages yesterday trying to work out the buses, we found we could get a train from Olsztyn West, which is closer than where the buses go from, and takes about half the time. Only cost 1GBP each, one way too. (Pricing of transport ...

... just north of Gdansk on Monday, we found a shop selling gluten free products and in the supermarket here yesterday we found a section with GF bread and muesli. (Also pasta, etc, but that's less useful without a kitchen!)

But when I walked back at 10 pm it was still slightly light and the atmosphere of the city was great - only because it was the first warm day in ages . Hundreds of young people along the river main - it was fabulous ! Could have got some great shots but wasn't game it would have been rude. Loved ...

I can't believe it - what are the chances!!! We found the grave of one of our ancestors today. Gustav saxarra 1892-1968. After driving around all our researched townships and realised how difficult it is to try and establish a connection to the past. Alt keykuth , Allenstein from Olsztyn . We went to a tiny village called zardowo and saw a sign e to the cemetery . Off course we ended up in the darkest ...

We met a lovely couple over breakfast who told us how Poland had changed and how poor it used to be. Now it has a fabulous infra structure and is quite modern - only in some of the country towns can you see the remainder of some of the poverty. So we are off to discover some of our ancestors roots today. He said that hitler and Stalin made a pact and all the Germans were driven away from Prussia and the German Ukrainian were re settled in Prussia . So it wasn't their home ...
