... the last but one leg we were in first place - pretty good for first time out we thought but all down to our exceptional crew. We were being chased hard by a couple of the faster boats behind us but one was held up by a large barge using the main ship channel - the air must have turned somewhat blue around them. Next day we took to the streets and tried to blend in with the locals… on bikes. It was a bit scary at first considering many of these cyclists are ruthless and rule the streets. Trying to steer, indicated, follow instructions and not get lost all at the same time ...

... start and only the local person who helped us would have known that. So finally after an hour we got in contact with the owner of the apartment and got a taxi here.

It is a small apartment 2 storey with 2 tiny bedrooms below and a lounge room / kitchen area on the top floor up a tiny very steep winding staircase. We did a quick shop then made our first home cooked meal in ages. We had salmon and potatoes and carrots and beans.

... can be confusing at first, but they make sense once you have an overall perspective. Amsterdam is quite small, and fairly easy to walk, especially in the heavily touristed areas.

Rent a bike, it is a GREAT way to get around. Also, they take their bike lanes very seriously; if you walk in them you will get run over, at the very least you will be yelled at. Look both ways before you cross them.
