Our second stop in Austria was Salzburg- we had gone a funny way around by going Munich to Vienna to Salzburg but it makes it a lot easier for us to get the train to Slovenia on Friday and quite a bit cheaper to leave from Salzburg as well. We travelled by train from Vienna to Salzburg in around 3hrs, getting quite used to hauling our bags up onto …

... I got one on video which I have posted with this. It looked really painful but they all just got up and walked off.

We decided to go to Mondsee next which is another lake town. It was very pretty as it was surrounded by mountains on all sides. There was one restaurant open there which was right on the lake front and had a lovely view. We had some lunch there and watched the tour busses come through. I'm glad we got a car and can explore in our own time is all I'm going to say about that haha!

Night trains are comfortable to sleep in but best if you are pocket sized, travelling light and don't suffer motion sickness... We mastered the art of having a change of clothes and toiletries in our day packs and even how to wriggle in and out of clothes efficiently - though that's hard when you can't sit up, even hunched. This one was plagued by a sick baby in the next cabinet. Little sleep was had - but we woke and ate ...
