    Saying Goodbye to New Friends

A travel blog entry by theriggs on Jun 28, 2015

... back to the 16th, when one monk from Switzerland arrived in the valley. Today there is again only one monk, who runs the monastery more as a business, with a farm, horses, restaurant, guest house, vegetable garden and wine cellar. We got to visit the wine cellar during our short visit. Back in the vans it was off to Feldkirch for our last meal together at Schattenberg Castle. We had to have the famous 30 cm schnitzel ...

    Last Hike

... metre. Being our last night, Patrick and Maree met us at 6:00 in the "purple room" for a debrief of the trip. Everyone expressed their enjoyment of the ten days and their appreciation for Patrick's, Anja's and Maree's efforts. Patrick and Anja's then joined us for our final dinner, yet another culinary delight. It is really hard writing this knowing that tomorrow we will leave. Another Day in Paradise

A travel blog entry by theriggs on Jun 26, 2015

After a wet start to the Euro Alps Tour, we have been very lucky to have a few days of fabulous weather in a row. Warm enough for shorts today, we dressed and got down to breakfast ready for the day ahead. ... idyllic. Lunch over and we resumed our hike, luckily in a downhill direction. The last part was quite a steep descent along a narrow track that eventually lead to the main road, and more importantly our destination for the totally unnecessary cake and coffee, which we nonetheless enjoyed while Patrick and Anya caught the bus to where we had left the cars. It was probably the best cake we had had to date - apricot cake served with cream and ice cream. ...

... houses were just like in the Heidi books and the mountains and big green grasses pastures were straight out of the Sound of Music. It was really beautiful and we stopped to have our lunch at a beautiful look out point. Then we continued up, up up the wiggly winding road until we came to our hotel which was a ski resort in winter time, literally hanging off a cliff way way up in the mountains. We were so high up there were clouds outside the windows. ...
