My Stay at Mcleodganj

I've always been very fond of visiting small and quiet Hill stations unspoilt by growing commercialization. After a long discussion with my family and friends we were able to finally zeroed in on this small town in Himachal Pradesh surrounded by Dhauladhar mountain range as our vacation spot . Being the person who actually proposed I started gathering information about our accomodation and also about the local sites around this town.Slightly lengthy exercise (Can you believe this :-)?)it was ...

était le nouvel an indien. Nous nous sommes échappés au mieux qu’on pouvait dans un café chinois-tibétain qui veut favoriser l’échange entre ces deux ...

... slow. I spent 5 weeks there, longer then I planned. Only left when I had to get back to Delhi for my plane to Bangkok. My time in Bhagsu was spent studying yoga, hanging out in cafes (I am now a complete chai addict!), spending time with friends, dancing (belly dancing, contact dance, and free dance), dodging rainstorms, hiking in the mountains, and learning a little bit about Buddhism and Tibet. Even though it didn't feel like India, I absolutely loved my time there.

... to the Tibet issue. He write beautiful poetry, I will try to copy over one of his poems when I get the chance. We also met with the person who plans the Miss Tibet Pageants. I know. When they first told us who we were going to meet I was not excited, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. This man is quite the character, he is famous for his flamboyant dress and flashy events. He was wearing shiny leather pants, a delicate ...

... will always stay optimistic. I just admire that so much. This man was truly amazing. I will always remember him. By the end of the ride we got really close and he gave me his e-mail and told me to please e-mail him in the future and keep in touch. We took pictures together and I even watched his bag in the airport as he talked to his fellow "lamas" before we left. I will never forget him. And I will never forget yesterday and my plane ride with the Dalai Lama.

India Part 13: Dharamsala

... the beauty, it was yet another long-haul back seat journey. We're surprised we haven't got bed sores or the like! We went through a village where the temple was on the other side of the wide River Beas. To get to it you either had to walk over the rickety chain bridge and then for miles up the long and winding steps around the mountain. Or alternatively, there was a small metal cage hanging from the overhead telegraph poles suspended cloud-high over the boulder-strewn River ...

Dhramsahala-Seat of Tibetan Government in Exile

... headed for another temple complex on the Palampur Road. Norbulingka, as it is called in Tibetan, is modelled after the summer palace of the Dalai Lama . The aerial view of it is like Buddha in meditation. There is the constant gurgling of a mountain stream , passing through this complex which adds a distinct atmosphere to it. We visited the shop selling some exclusive handicrafts, beautifully crafted but very expensive. We decided to buy a lamp, a wall hanging with Tibetan motifs ...

You sit around a steel door turned on its side. It's trimmed with pieces of two-by-four. Sunil Dutt is the owner. He looks and acts like an amicable version of Ahmedinajad. I think he's Kashmiri, but he says he was born in Lower Dharamsala. He let me make chapathi while he washed dishes round the ...

Tibet and China - Can't We All Just Get Along?!

... Does China deserve the Olympics? Well, let's face it, while sportsmanship and international solidarity are still present in the hearts of many when contemplating the games, they have also become huge business. Even the Dalai Lama has said he thinks China deserves the Games, in respect to the emerging power they have in the world, and the sheer number of their population. The Dalai Lama also calls not for an Independent Tibet, but a more autonomous one. He seems to have ...

I asked a woman if it was possible to get to Tibet from India but she confirmed my suspicions by saying that it was only possible from Nepal (the Chinese are not happy about India providing a haven for the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan refugees). I then walked back down to McLeod Gang after that, pausing only when I was invited to play cricket by some Indian boys who were using a stick for a bat and a large rock for wickets.
