A very quiet and peaceful evening, blessed with no midges as it was cold but this made the skies clearer and the light and colours spectacular. We walked a little, enjoyed our evening meal with some wine and a good, long sleep. En route to Tampere now for a look see and perhaps a shop before we find somewhere for the night, we shall see! ... where I was picked up by Mikko for the drive to Tampere.

Tampere is 150km north of Helsinki but it's not a particularly exciting drive. The motorway is empty by English standards and the route is largely through featureless forests. The wild lupine on the side of the road ad colour, with large drifts of blue and pink.

By Paul I'm now in a smaller city north of Helsinki, called Tampere. It's the home of 2 of Finlands oldest saunas. I've included a photo of 1 I went to, Rauhaniemi sauna. I found that before going into a Finnish sauna it is good to ask alot of questions, the first one being can I keep my trunks on. They said "yes". It was amazing. You go in the sauna, then get out, walk outside, walk along a rock down ...

... with places to see and sights to enjoy for spending the afternoon exploring this postindustrial city wedged between the shores of two beautiful lakes.
Meeting back at their apartment after a days exploration, it was decided that we would enjoy dinner at their accredited favorite lake-side beach, consisting of the most delicious savory and sweet pancakes: Finnish style.
And, of course, we couldn't go without spending our final evening here ...
