Mosaics and Lions in Delos

Delos is an incredibly interesting place. The entire island is a collection of ruins where no one is allowed to stay on the island overnight so everyone who visits are day trippers—most of whom are staying in Mykonos. It was an excellent day for exploring ruins at just over 60F degrees it was cool and pleasant. There is a lot to explore on the island so be sure to leave enough time to see it all.

There are no complete building standing, but ...

A few days in Mykonos

... beautiful place with the village full of white-washed buildings scattered around a maze of little streets and alley ways. Just at it seemed that Santorini was made for couples, Mykonos was make for singles and the party life. This is one place that I want to return to again.

Cruising and coughing

... tomorrow. The awesome thing is that tomorrow is the official torch lighting ceremony in Olympia for the winter games in Canada. I have no idea if I'll be able to get to see it but I'm going to try to at least experience some part of it. You don't often get chances like that in life. For every Olympic games since way back to the original games, the torch is lit in this same stadium. And now, of course, that flame gets passed from torch to torch to torch all around the ...

My Big Fat Greek Visit !

... were white! The sky was clear blue! Vendors were yelling! The smells of slouvaki were everywhere! It felt like we were at our Summer Fair!

We walked around the port and did some browsing in the store front shops and street market, occasionally being enticed to view local Greek Nike t-shirts! Being seasoned shoppers, we avoided eye contact and only took interest in an item if we were truly ...

... a pair of boxer shorts. The gentlemen in question used to always sit at the edge of the bar so I would always have to walk past him to get to the kitchen for beers. On my way back to the bar he starts to grab at my towel to have a look underneath. I'm laughing nervously trying not to offend him but at the same time I'm trying to remove his vice like grip when he pulls it right up to reveal my boxer shorts. I'm still laughing when he eventually lets go but what he said next still ...

3 Nights in Kythnos

... we have to stay another night beyond our charter period, we're all relaxed. However, there's very little left for us to see or do in Kythnos, so it turns into a very lazy day. We decide early in the morning that we're going to make our own last night dinner tonight, so we need to get some ingredients. There's nothing here in Lautra besides one very small grocery store with hardly any stock now the season is over, so luckily we have the rental cars until mid morning. A few of us ...

... my friends to eat their hearts out over this view. Peggy was looking for children's clothing, so we looked at linens, crafts and jewelry. A lot of the craftsmen run their own shops, but of course the jewelry was out of my price range. I took pictures of some spectacular pieces, but there were workers stationed in some of the doorways to prevent people like me from doing that. We did find a nice shop that had some reasonable silver jewelry and I got a pair of ...

Mykonos

... thought "We're only one day in and this is the best thing we've ever done!" Mykonos is a party island - with party prices. (Mykonos is primarily a cruise ship destination - there were 6 in port that night.) There is NOTHING near the marina so it makes you take a bus or taxi to the town, where there was tourists, tourists, tourists and more tourists. Kyle and Heather (with us ...

Cruising the Greek Islands

How on Earth did I get to be so lucky?

My family and I went on a cruise of the Greek Islands. We ate a lot, got sea sick once, soaked up the sun, and absorbed the classically beautiful white and blue colours on the islands. There weren't very much ship activities that my sister and I were interested in but Allyson and I did win a bingo game! Mykonos was by far our favorite island because of its beauty.
