... the rest of the day in Strasbourg, eating at the same restaurant I ate at last time so he could experience tarte flambee. We also tried some Alsatian wine, which was excellent.

He went in the cathedral while I waited in the sunshine with Lincoln, so I still haven't seen the interior or gone up the tower. We also went on a mini train tour of the city which was pretty fun, being a serious tourist.

We headed back to the train station after a quick ...
Strasbourg, Alsace, France travelingdiva... s not that easy. After looking up train options, researching towns and hotels, and too much deliberation (mostly between Challi), we decided on Strasbourg.

Although Chad reported it an "industrial city", it turned out to be quite the opposite, with charming (yes, I said charming) half-timbered architecture, great food, and canals running throughout the town. The cathedral, (because there is one in every city and you’ve got to see each ...
Strasbourg, Alsace, France leandroop... hotel is a big picture of the little prince AND apparently the rooms are decorated after different themes from the book. I didn't get to go in but someday I will definitely stay there.
I also saw my first movie in a German theatre which was really cool...I saw Up, I liked it but obviously didn't understand much. Anyway, I definitely recommend it...even just for a few hours!
Baden-Baden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany katerilalaineLast leg of the European jaunt and we've decided to try out the Black Forest...the bad weather was the final nail in the coffin and after 3 days of dripping foggy weather, we decided to jack in the caravan and head to Octoberfest, but more of that later.

So a quick trip to a 500 yr old stud farm started by King Wilhelm the 1st, where they breed beautiful Black Forest horses and Arabs then, Baden Baden to take in the sights of this thermal spa town and ...
Baden-Baden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany sarahandstutourI had planned to visit Strasbourg on three separate dates in the past, all with the same friend. Each time we had to postpone it for one reason or another. Today our plan finally came together. We got in a car with our men and drove out to Strasbourg. My friend is even more organized than me and had everyone download audio guides from Zevisit in our own native language beforehand. Once we got to the city we started our audio tour in ...
Strasbourg, Alsace, France travelingdiva... I'm fairly certain that we saw our own behinds going around the corner. If the hairpin wasn't challenging enough, there were other drivers trying to outdo each other and semi trucks just trying to get up the steep slope. I thought for sure that Chris was going to need to pry my little white fingers out of the dashboard once we crossed the Alps. We reached our southern most destination, Freiburg, and stopped to have dessert (Black Forest Cake of course) at a little cafe in the shadow of ...
Baden-Baden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany katieandchrisWe caught the wrong train and wound up in Gengenbach. While we were waiting for a train back we met a lady who told us the town had a beautiful old-town section. So we went discovering again. After a good look around we stopped at a pub while we were waiting for the next train and got talking to the owner. Turns out he'd been to Australia on holiday, so we had a good time talking to him until it was time to go.
Gengenbach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany danandrozDay trip from Villingen. Wolfach has a factory cum tourist attraction where they blow the glass manually. It was good to watch them making vases etc. in the traditional way. The highlight for me was dobbing Roz in to get up on the stage and blow her own vase. She did a good job, and we bought the vase and brought it home. A very special souvenir.
Wolfach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany danandroz... part of it really is beautiful with narrow twisting roads surrounded by dense evergreen forest. However, the 2nd half is truly ugly. Much of the forest has been "clear-cut". We found ourselves driving on roads with nothing but leftover stumps on either side. Along the way we stopped at the Mummelsee - a lake located high in the forest at 1,030 meters. Here we had one of the worst pretzels ever and shared a beer before continuing on ...
