... was a quick drive tour around the city to orientate us a bit. It got totally dark by 4:45pm and was a bit rainy so I'm looking forward to exploring properly tomorrow! That afternoon we
visited the Konigstein Fortress, this again is another wonderful feet of
engineering and a very interesting place to explore.

Our accommodation in
Dresden was at the A&O Hotel, this is a basic but excellent value hotel
that appeared to cater to all age groups regardless and was again in the city
and a very good base from which to explore the city on foot.

... where there is a hunting castle built in 1542, you are able to take a horse drawn carriage around the lake if you like. Then for our last stop Dresden - which was bombed at the end of WWII & under communist rule until 1989. The Christmas markets were good & very busy. It was a lovely day & most unexpected. ... up his time to show me around, and attempt to speak English. We communicated better than we would have if we'd been speaking in German. I then went back to the hostel to warm up. I took a lay down on my bed for a few minutes, and woke up 3 hours later! I went out to look round the city in the evening, and the Christmas markets! They were much better than the markets in Berlin, and Dresden also has the oldest Christmas market in Germany! Men ...
