... queues at the Auguille du Midi. Phillip decided he didn't want to view the great heights of the mountain so I went alone, although I wasn't really alone because each gondola holds about 60 people. So up we went from about 1,000 metres at Chamonix to 3,842m. I know from my experiences in Peru last year that I'm not great at altitude so I wasn't surprised to feel really woozy and short of breath up there but it was really worth it. The views ...

... seemed to have too many rules and too many cars and too many tolls. So we settled on Bodensee. You (I) can't get everything right. The whole of Germany, a fair bit of Switzerland, and some of France seems to be on the edge of the enormous Titicaca-like lake that is Bodensee. We were turned away from the campsite as it was full but they told us we could park for 12 hours around where the swimming pool carpark was. Perfect. After so much moving and travelling we were a bit tired but we decided to still jump on our bikes to explore Constance and to do so means you ride from Switzerland into Germany and back in an afternoon. During the war ...

... Museum. This was a big museum dedicated to the great airships of the 1930s. Fascinating! I hadn't realized that these dirigibles made regularly-scheduled trips between Germany and Brazil in the 1930s! The exhibits were great - they displayed lots of memorabilia from the airships, and gave you a feel for what the cabins looked like through actual size mock-ups. You got a great sense of what it was like to "cruise" from Europe to the ...

... town, and take our lunch with a view. So we set out looking for the Hahnenkammbahn - a cable car up another mountain on the other side of Reutte. You'd think something with such a long name would be obvious, but it was tricker than we expected. Eventually we found our way, and headed up. There was a nice restaurant with an outdoor patio, and we enjoyed lunch with a view!

We thought about hiking around on the mountain after lunch, but as it was ...
