The Cage of Shame
We took our first significant road trip today, a 400 km round trip to Levoca, in the north of Slovakia. It is considered to be one of the nicer parts of the country, in terms of historical buildings and that sort of thing, which I am into to a much greater degree than Jane. Jane tolerates my breathless cries of "look at that Baroque facade!" and "check out that wooden altar!", even though she would much rather be hiking or skiing or something. ...
Gengið til Póllands

The dog, Wally, greeted us as soon as we walked up. It was a cozy ...
In Search of the Zebracki Family Ancestors
... the summer and skiing in the winter. It is nestled in the mountains with many rolling hills, the sights were incredible...see pics! We went to St Jozefa Church where we met with the parish priest and local historian. They had been doing some research on the Zebracki side of the family before our arrival. They were so warm and welcoming it was incredible. We spent the next hour and a half going through records that are kept in the church on ...
Passing by the wars
... graveyards, bureaucratically administered with Polish precision: the number of the graveyard, how many dead from which background, either Austrian-Hungarian, German or Russian. All died in their young years. For what? As a 'result' of the fighting Poland was re-created. It had not existed as nation state for 123 years and was taken by the 3 parties, who fought their battles. Of course the Polish culture had continued and people did feel ...
