... There we spent the night in a ryoken- a traditional guest house with tatimi mats that you sleep on. The place was very old and our room was enveloped by cool paper sliding doors. The hostess poured us some green tea before she left and gave us kimonos to wear around the place. For dinner we went out and found ourselves in a Hawaiian restaurant- bit odd I know! Then we went back and slept on the floor.

Bonding over questions and beer is never a bad thing :) We will be meeting up with a bunch of the students this thursday and most of them are coming to Boston this summer, which is really nice. As the title suggests, I really shouldn't have gone to Kamikochi today. It didn't bode well from the start--I forgot my maps and guides and the driver was particularly worried about me and lack of clothes, as it was SNOWING up in Kamikochi. Which I didn't really appreciate the severity of because from Matsumoto even the tallest hills didn't have any snow on the ground and though Kamikochi is a mile above sea level, it's a valley between two parallelt taller mountain ranges ...
