... bus had rendered us a little dazed, and we were struggling to contribute much to the conversation. In truth, we were not the best house-guests for the 3 days we spent in Cordoba - we slept too long in our comfy bed, didn't try to speak much Spanish and ate all the pastries, ice cream and other lovely food she had bought for our arrival. ... where they did food/drink themed nights. The area was a little seedy and rundown as it was the location of most of the discount clothes/shoes stores in Córdoba. Whether it was actually the red-light district I have no idea...I never saw any evidence of 'chicas/chicos de la noche' but who knows... The centre itself was very near to the hostel. Rudyard Kipling said 'the first condition of understanding a foreign country is to smell it', and smell it I did! An assault on the senses, at every corner of the Artisan’s Market there was popcorn, candyfloss, leather, perfume, cakes, bread and all manner of sweet-smelling things.
