... and headed out the backside of the mall to discover a jazz festival! Though the singer we heard was pretty good, the set in itself was a little bland and we lost interest.
Though we had hoped to go the zoo, we missed the last bus out there, so we headed back to the hotel in defeat. After a few hours recharching and napping, we decided to strike out and the beer festival we had heard so much about. We found it ...
... at a deli in the train station and headed the park we had heard was beautiful.
Sitting patiently and eating our doughnuts and such, we noticed we had several guests. About ten billion pigeons and four or five NASTY, ENORMOUS crows. After trying fervently to kick these pigeons, we noticed we had drawn a crowd of giggling school girls. They were none too subtle about staring at us and ...
... the bridges near the monument in Hiroshima.
Then, this just reminded me of the Issey Miyake's article on the New York Times.

I've never been to Hiroshima yet.
It's not to blame someone now. It's a history, but there are many histories that shouldn't be forgotten... not only these nuclear bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki ...
... excited to see another student who's studying about Ainu people. She set up a dinner with an Ainu sculptor and storyteller, Mr. Takashi Yuuki. Also, another student from Indiana, Shingo joined us. They were the members of the Indigenous Summit last year held right before the G8 Summit at Tohya Ko (Lake) in Hokkaido. 23 indigenous groups from all over the world gathered and discussed issues. They submitted a declaration to the participating nations. They told me ...
Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan beachmonkie... ski.
Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan clemandpo... past some newly developed dockside restaurant district. The foreign influence here is amazing--Russian restaurants from the 1800s, German beer halls, replete with red bricks and paned windows. Through the day it actually made me a bit depressed--reminded me of home and all that I still have to do. Ugh. But all in all, I've really enjoyed Hakodate. Tomorrow, going to the morning market for some seafood and skipping Onuma park (not the right season) for two more hours in Sapporo. -mike
