Today, Sep 7, happened to be Manatee day. TV crews were interviewing someone in front of the manatee tank. But I seriously do not know what manatees do differently on their day. In fact I do not know what manatees do at all. All they seem to do is float like a sponge, where every movement seems to be a monumental effort on their part.

I think I must have difficulty adjusting to Mexican time because again, I was one of the handful at the auditorium for the opening address 5 minutes before it was scheduled to commence. It turned out things were only 20-30 minutes late in the end. Activities On Lake Catemaco

Yesterday, on the long bus ride to Catemaco, we were given a choice of activities this morning. (A) An appointment with the shaman; (B) Kayaking to do bird watching; and (C) Bird watching. I enjoy both the physical aspect of kayaking and the natural of birding, so (B) was the spontaneous choice for me. I am not so interested in shamans though I like anthropology. (A) turned out to be the most popular among the group that they extended the capacity.

... in just over an hour. It is a bird observatory, but not what I had in mind, meaning hidden in some secluded forest or overlooking a wide expanse of water. Instead it was located right beside a soccer field with a game in full swing, complete with spectators downing Corona's, concession stands and loud music. It turned out that the observatory was more for raptors for whom thermals and air currents are more important than silence and seclusion.
