Day 2: Of course you can fit 12 people in a truck

... have to go).

We are now back in Merida, and about to head to dinner. We are a bit embarrassed to admit our restaurant of choice but I´ll just say that it starts with a D, ends with an ominos, and is not exactly authentic Mexican food. Not quite like last night when we went to a cute mom and pop restaurant with excellent shrimp and fried chicken. But it´s 2 for 1 Martes, so how could we resist? That´s all for now, stay tuned for Day 3!

... not local vendors all over the place (like Chichen Itza). We waited by the street swatting misquitos for an hour while waiting for the bus to Campeche that was late. Not a fun experience but at least we made it and Campeche turned out to be a nice place.

Uxmal Ruins - Female Energy of the Earth

... about 25,000 people) is at present only a very rough guess subject to change upon better data. Most of the architecture visible today was built between about 700 and 1100. Maya chronicles say that Uxmal was founded about 500 by Hun Uitzil Chac Tutul Xiu. For generations Uxmal was ruled over by the Xiu family, was the most powerful site in western Yucatan, and for a while in alliance with Chichen Itza ...

Another day of ruination

... bottom, then angle in about 30º off vertical up to a short horizontal portion at the top. It doesn't look inherently stable, but must be pretty effective as a number have stood for more than 1000 years. Amongst the wildlife there, we saw something like a praying mantis but done up to look like a bit of bark or a twig. Not quite a stick bug, but similar. Site #2 was Kabáh, which was impressive. It has a couple of plazas backed by nicely-restored buildings ...

On the road again

... for a swim. My stomach was whining at me (hopefully the final stage of recovery from the recent maladies), so I discovered the hammock nearby and lay watching the iguanas and swimming redheads. We forced ourselves to move along (tough, as it is a very pleasant place to laze) and went next to a ruin that is not small: the very-popular Uxmal. The site has been very heavily restored, making it pretty impressive to wander about. It's also quite large. I have to say ...

Uxmal

... Every building had tons of designs....And there were tons of iguanas everywhere...every room I crawled into had tons of them and they some were F&%?in huge. They roped off some of the best pyramids but since there was practically no one there (tourists, vendors, or security, I climbed three stories up to the largest pyramid ...
