... he pointed me further down the line to another wicket. I asked the girl for two return tickets to Uxmal, fairly simple so far, right! Wrong!! Apparently my ennunciation wasn't correct and we got two tickets to a place called Izamal!! Totally in the opposite direction, and it held no interest for us at all. After seeing the mistake, we informed the girl of our error and asked for a refund. Not a chance!! ...

... l'artigianato locale: in questa città si trovano sopratutto cappelli panama e amache.  Di panama ce ne sono di 3 qualità e il migliore dicono sia quello fatto in juta che pare tenga addirittura lontane le zanzare. A mia grande sorpresa scopro che questo tipo di cappello si può anche piegare e arrotolare per una maggiore praticità di trasporto, ma preferiamo investire questi pesos in altro modo... Anche per le amache c'è la stessa teoria della juta e poi si trovano anche in cotone, ...

... missed the bus. It was like, wow, there's that preterite tense I knew I had in my brain somewhere.)

The ride was pretty, passing through a few small pueblos south of Mérida along the way. I was surprised by how many residences still had thatched roofs (palapas). What happens when it's hurricane season, I wondered? Do they just have to rebuild every year? Maybe. I can't imagine those roofs staying in place...
