      ... most popular wine here is the Riesling. The reason they grow the grapes on the steep hills in a vertical fashion is to get the most out of the environment here. The slate in the soil which creates some warmth keeps the grapes in this area within a micro climate that lets them get its best wines. So we all head to Senheim to the Schlagkamp Winery and museum.       ... all over. We go all the way up to the top of the castle and it is pitch dark. Thank goodness my son told me about the flashlight in the iPhone. There is some steps down in the roof to the bat cage. The story goes that in 1290 the new king besieged Castle Reichenstein, but he did not succeed but he forced the garrison to surrender by means of starvation, the castle was rebuilt 3 times in its long history by different owners. Total steps walked today is 10,253 or 4.6 ...

      Today we caught the ferry that was opposite the hotel. After
      great discussions we decided to go down the river rather than up and the town
      selected was Boppard…for no other reason than it was a medium sized town that we
      didn’t see when we were on the firework cruise.

      ... a man on the road being given CPR. It didn't look good. I also read of Facebook that David Smith had broken a bone in his neck. So no visit in Europe rom the Smith's. We had drinks at a a little restaurant at Beilstein out on the verandah. We started a conversation with a lovely lady named Karen.
