... work, the store, whatever we need to do. And see if we can do it on only one piece of bread, because that was the amount of food each prisoner received each day, while having to endure long days of arduous labor, in the heat, snow, rain, whatever. Very thought provoking. One day I'll try it.

We took our bread, thanked her for her informative tour, and then walked those few precious, one-time-most-sought-after footsteps through the exit gate of Dachau Concentration Camp.

... and administrators could carry out their daily orders?  Racism? The culture of the Nazis had to be all-consuming to believe than any of this inhumanity could lead to uber-macht.  Demonic.   We were so proud that American troops were those to liberate the camp in 1945, capturing and executing many of the camp officers and guards.  Video of the atrocity,  taken by our troops, has been preserved to affirm, "Never Forget, Never Again." ...
