This beautiful castle built on the River Cher was home to five different ladies between 1499-1836; Diane De Poitiers, Catherine de Medici, Louise of Lorraine, Louise Dupin and Marguerite Pelouze. During the First World War, it served as a hospital. Although the crowds were large, we enjoyed seeing this charming and beautifully restored residence. Today we visited a total of four castles (but only technically went into two of them - still a significant feat). The first Château we visited was by the finest of the four by far. Although we didn't go in the castle itself, the gardens, which the property is most renowned for, provided us with hours of wandering around the ...

... We finished our tour on the lovely sandy beach and it was once again difficult for us to imagine what had happened there only 7 decades earlier.

We ate on the road and eventually found our way to the Castle where we are staying in the Loire Valley, no thanks to the British GPS our family has nick-named 'Kate'. On our way, we were privileged to see acres and acres of bright yellow sunflowers in full ...
