German is actually the main language, but most people are fluent in Italian as well, and all the road signs and street names are written in both! ... what they claim to have the "the best garden in the world" . Claims aside, it was very good, and unusually, quite catholic in that every sign in the place ( and there were thousands of them) was in German, Italian and English, and occasionally a couple of other languages that I didn't understand.
