Early Monday morning we set off for our first adventure on the Shinkansen (the Japanese bullet train). Less than 2 hours later we arrived in Sendai (Northern Japan). ... and curvy streets to find our last site, a samurai's house. You actually have to walk over a small bridge to get there, because the moat for the castle runs in front of the house. This particular house was a farmer's house turned middle-class samurai house. It wasn't too impressive but Chris and I realized it wasn't what we were expecting for a samurai's house. Maybe I thought they should have lived in a castle or somewhere more exotic then just a house.

A true highlight of any japanese experience is Zao Onsen, a ski resort town about 45 minutes East of Yamagata.
Came here a bit by chance and was very lucky indeed. This town is so charming, lots of little lodges and restaurants, it's pretty, clean and surrounded by mountains, ski slopes and lakes.
