Nagle słuchać ogromny huk, drżenie i małe trzęsienie w nogach i nagle z niesamowitym impetem widzi się Roberta Kubicę zmierzającego w kierunku tory. To ...

The Quck Turn in Nagoya

We did the usual disembarkation and re-boarding to go through security in Nagoya. I threw the Japanese quarantine inspectors into a tizzy. I saw there was no line for the security checkpoint and didn't see them at the far end of where the line normally is, so I jumped the barrier and almost violated their quarantine. The decided I didn't have swine flu and let me through. I had only a few minutes between when I got to the gate and we started to board.
Ise Jingu: Exclusive Spirituality

... institution like religion, secret rites smack of cloaks and daggers, but on the other hand it's private for actual religious reasons so at least it still functions for something beyond fund raising, though there are money boxes here too. But two Shinto priests did pull an elderly woman out the crowd and offer here a one on one blessing, which you'd be hard pressed to see in St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC.
<br ...

Japan, land of crazyness I love it

... comes in as one of the best meals we had had in Japan. Although the staff thought we were freeks as we oohhed and ahhed over toast. They probably thought we were also greed fat westerners. (not too wrong in their assertions) Japan although great in some ways was starting to get irrirating in others. On to Izumo-Shi meet up with big Ewan and talk to someone normal for a change. I'll mention the vending machines later on. Buy for now

... pursuit of a Metro station I'd just noticed a sign for. I got back to the hostel and chilled in the air conditioning. Later, feeling refreshed, I took a length hike via Kyoto station and shops, alongside busy main roads to Fushimi-Inan Taisha, a shrine to the gods of rice and sake dotted about with numerous statues of stone foxes (the fox is the messenger of the god of cereal grains, Inari). Here can be found the "thousand tori", I didn't could but I'll ...

Experiencing my Japan...

... new, something we know goes on, but never have the opportunity to witness or feel. It was an overwhelming mixture of heartbeats and smiles as well as thoughts.

People

We also came across some great people on our trip.
How about the old lady in the restaurant? We were sitting there, the attraction of the whole place, two foreigners who couldn't understand a word of the menu or of what the waitress was saying to them in a small, traditional ...

The smallest city in the world...

... ladies cross the street. * skool girls: ok you wanted it and here it is. Somebody told me last week that you know you have been in Japan too long when you start to get turned on more by school uniforms then lingerie. hmmm as a little sick as this sounds it is quite natural in Japan as some of you may or may not know. Contributing to this is a high school age which goes to 19 and uniforms of tartan skirts (usually worn barely below panty line), knee high socks and ...

Uncle Mike, Nara and Kyoto

Headed out to pick up Mike at about 7am (23rd) as I didn't want to be late picking him up at the airport. Also had to re-arrange some of my flights whilst I was there, going to Hong Kong and Tokyo earlier than planned now, need some warmth before it runs out in Oz. Thankfully, he arrived on time so it was a cushty pick-up, headed straight home to drop off his gear and to introduce him to Simon. They hadn't seen each other since about 1978ish! I guess it's almost like two strangers ...

Mountain of Monkeys

... fishermen with massive, long poles waded out into the waters in search of a day's meal or a morning's sport. We crossed the long Togetsyu-kyo bridge alongside pedestrians, cyclists, and rickshaws being pulled by handsome, fit young met with lean athletic builds. Ellie was quick to notice that pretty much every rickshaw man we saw possessed a rugged attractiveness, not unlike a surfer or a mountain climber. The build was an obvious necessity conditioned by days spend ...

Kyoto Wild

I have this weird knack for getting to my destination well after nightfall. It certainly has its drawbacks, the biggest one being that by the time I am where I wanted to be, it's just about time to hit the hay. The benefit, however, far outweighs the need to put off your adventures until the morning, and that benefit is that I arrive in a place and have no idea what it's like. When I awake in the morning, everything is new and nothing has been spoiled. Words can't describe the awe of ...
