So for our last day in Tokyo we decided to go to the more modern district which is around the Shibuya station stop. We had a bit of a chilled morning packing up our stuff, sending emails and so on and then headed to the nearby grocery store to get some breakies and a small gift for Ankit. It's quite difficult trying to decipher the different items in the supermarket so we settled for a smoothie, iced coffee, raisin roll and egg and bacon roll. We grabbed some choc chip cookies ...
We woke this morning with Ankit, our coach surfing host, pointing out Mt Fuji in the distance. A beautifully clear and sunny winter day. Ankit directed us to Kamakura, a little town outside Tokyo to the South East - it's claim to fame is being where the Samurai started localized rule - later the samurai shogunate ran the whole of Japan for of 700 years - the longest military rule in the world to date. Even the back streets around our hotel were filled with parked taxis, waiting, for something. Weaving through the taxis we got back to our hotel. Baths, then beds, and we were all asleep within minutes.
... and also peak season - it closed from the 29th to the 2nd so opened up for the first time in 2009 today... hmmm good time to go? The weather was beautiful, clear blue skies and no rain... cold though but better to be cold and dry I think. We hopped on the local train and headed for Tokyo station, which we could then catch a train straight to Maihama, the Tokyo Disneyland stop. Hmmm... we kept going, and going and going, and still no Tokyo... then I said 'um, we're about ...
