Today we kept low around the hostel and did some shopping before checking out. We then took a bus to Puerto Varas which is the city closest to the volcano. ... dams? The section of road that we rode south of Puerto Montt in 2009 is no longer recognisable as its all sealed and the short ferry ride has disappeared!

The land has been damaged (as in New Zealand ) by man trying to farm it, log it, or at times just burning off the bush. We had the morning only in Punta Arenas before we were flying out to Puerto Montt so we battled the slight breezes, that is in comparison to the hurricanes from our last visit here. We went to the old mansion that was the house of the leading sheep baron in the late 19th century which is now a museum.
