I tried to go in a hotel to ask them or get a map but there was nobody at reception. I picked up a brochure with a picture of the gate and decided to ask someone. I showed them the picture and asked 'wo ist centrum' ?
... There we had some friends come around and have a BBQ with drinks with us and had a very enjoyable night with everyone. ... Eastern Germany. The guide used to come to Travemunde (where our ship was docked) to play at the very popular beach along the river. It was clearly a beach resort with a boardwalk and kiosks and playgrounds. But just across the river was East Germany and the beach contained only a fence with guard towers. Today the guard towers are gone and in their place is a park, a marina, and a hotel. While still somewhat undeveloped, it is a much more pleasant view!
