This is a distinctly multilingual country and as we travelled around Switzerland from east to west and north to south , the influences and changes in culture, houses, languages and even how they stack their wood was clear. In the north the language is clearly German influence, and yet in the east around Lausanne and Monterey the language is essentially French. ... loved it, but were quite bemused when we found out that many of the restaurants and cafes were closed in the middle of the day (some from 12-3)! We thought that those times may have been some of their best trading times. Perhaps they were having a siesta. Anyway, we did manage to find a place for a cold drink, and some lunch. Bern 29th June - 2nd July 2012 We arrived in Berne expecting this place to be cool but got off the train sweating! Saw some locals swimming in the Glacier rivers and then we were set on going for a swim. We had to get a lift/ small cable car down the hill to get to the lower part of town where our hostel was. We had a great location, 5 mins walk to the water, we could even see it from our balcony. We got changed and walked down to the river. The water was so clean and clear blue. ...

... river scale, it comes in, First! yeah thats right before, the Thames, the Seine, even before the Yarra! Its wide, glacier blue, fast moving, fresh and you can see the bottom; all ticks. Then the botanical gardens, not the best but still good. I did find a cool sign, that I'm pretty sure means, if your elephant is crushing flowers, pull his ear. It is down the bottom, check it out. Then after two bridge crossings I get to the famous Bern Bear Pits! ...
