... I wondered if they do tours, with a free sample?! The hotel Tyrolis was nice enough, too much wood pannelling stuff going on that made the room feel quite small, but the beds were comfy ough and we flopped and watched some tv. Did some washing...and skipping dinner (due to the very late lunch and having half a chocolate pretzel left!) we went to bed. It's either a night in Switzerland or France tomorrow..!
... Trey and I returned to the top again intent on blasting down the mountain at top speed. We both made it down without using the brakes at all in 5 minutes and some-odd seconds. We both had a blast. Trey video recorded his first descent and he intends on publishing on youtube when we return home.
Imst, Austrian Alps, Austria brian796... and came face to face with an amazing Medieval town called Glurns that still had all its turrets and walls intact. As it had started to lightly rain again, we decided to get a room at a Gasthaus in the town so we could explore it more. Once settled into the room, we stepped out to see the town sights and have a bite to eat at a local Stube, which was filled with loud beer drinking locals playing cards.
Nauders, Tyrol, Austria kochwebb... town and mountain range. Back on ground level we explored the square and cobbled streets and saw the famous Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) which has 2657 gilded copper tiles dating from the 16th Century. Back on the road we found our B & B for tonight which is in Natters, another pretty Bavarian style village, only 10 minutes from Innsbruck. We went for a walk along our street and a forest road and later went out to Mutters, yet another lovely village, to get some dinner.
Natters, Austrian Alps, Austria souter... they finally started to check us in manually. We went straight to the gate, sat down and were soon told it was a different gate. Finally time to board and those passengers with manual boarding passes got to board last. Malcolm and I ended up in the very back two seats, only together because the flight attendant helped us. And so we left the chaos of Greece! What a contrast to arrive at ...
Seefeld, Austrian Alps, Austria souter... is a fairly old and wealthy, which can be seen in cobblestone streets and beautiful architecture. The town is located in a valley, surrounded on all sides by impressive mountains. After some sight-seeing we headed up to local ski resort (Merano 2000) for some winter activities. To get to the ski slopes you have to take a short bus ride followed by a 15 minute gondola ride that takes you from some 500m to 2000+ meters. The gondola stops at ...
Merano, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy emily_and_marko... not to be a chicken and stand the pain and not to skip a skiing day with perfect sun! And amazingly it turns out one can get used to the pain, at least to the point that it's possible to enjoy a day of speeding downhill. So after another perfect day in the mountains, I said goodbye to my parents and friends and drove back to Ravensburg, where I am now, tired but happy that at last my holiday was rescued!
Samnaun, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kattiline... and excuse for not having money here. Overall, Liechtenstein is a really good location to visit and discover its charm. Now on in to Austria, views made famous by "The Sound of Music". After another stint of about an hour, we arrived in Seefeld, Tyrol, Austria, just up the mountain from the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck. Another quaint town, with an Olympic history, hosting Olympic events in the Innsbruck Games of 1964 and 72. Another great town to add to my list. On to Innsbruck tomorrow!
Seefeld, Austrian Alps, Austria disciple26... if the foot trails running to the left and right were not dead-ends and we would have to turn back. Luckily, the car traffic was so tense that the cars had to travel at walking speed, so we actually passed them on bike on the way up the mountain pass. At the Fernpass, we took some time to look down to the Blindsee mountain lake before continuing our journey down the pass ...
Ried im Oberinntal, Austrian Alps, Austria kremserOK, just time for a quick blog, cos some american lady didnt use up all her time, so i get free internet use!! We had planned to just stop over in Innsbruck for a night, to break up our journey to break up our journey to Zurich, but that would have been the biggest mistake ever. We had no accomodation when we arrived and we were praying the tourist office at the train station could help us out. They directed us to a hostel in the ...
