We departed Rome on time at 7.50am and had a pleasant rail trip to Venice Mestre station where we changed to a coach for the trip to Villach. Train got up to 250kph in places and there were lots of tunnels. The Coach was very comfortable and the scenery very interesting as we left the plain behind and headed into the mountains. It took about 3 hours to reach Villach and we did not have to wait long to get picked up by Betttina, our home exchange contact. She drove us ...

Sat 25th: Had several maps and so much to explore that we didn't know where to start! Bastian, our host, suggested we drive to Lake Bohinj west of Bled where we climbed up to the waterfall at Savica. On our way back we stopped at Cesnjica for very ...

Then we arrived and walked down the lake and I tell you it was glorious! Very blue and clear water and a gorgeous view of the Alps on one side- pity the pictures couldn't do it justice.

We then decided to get a bird's eye view of the lake so climbed the 130m up to the castle overlooking the lake- I believe it almost killed some of the girls... ...

... All was fine and, as the sun was shining, I decided today would be the day I ventured North to see the lake which I've heard so much about. Hangover-free somehow (all will be revealed), my Irish pal and I ventured to the bus station where we had THE BEST coffee ever (for bloody €1.40 no less, too) whilst waiting for my bus. 1 hour 20, €6 and a lot of confusion later ("This stop??" "No, England! Sit!"), I arrived in Bled. It's North West of ...
