Negombo, Sri Lanka mandy_karl... river for their daily dip. the sight of 40 plus elephants walking down a narrow road was amazing, expecially when they got the scent of the river and started almost running to get there. we spent over an hour just watching these amazing animals playing around in the river. it was a wonderful sight! afterwards we went to a spice garden, which turned out to be a few show plants and the ...

What we hadn't banked on was being told when we called to confirm our flight that it had been cancelled, permanently. There's been something of a stramash here during our visit over the country's two airlines; the better known Sri Lankan Airline run by Emirates and the other by a relative of the President. Apparently the president was in London just before Christmas for one of his son's graduation parade and ...
Negombo, Sri Lanka worldlywanderer... closed, it just took a moment for the penny to drop, it was Friday and this is a 100% Moslem country. it seems places close for fifteen minute period to enable the owners to pray at every prayer time. Although under nominal Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences after the sixteenth century, Maldivians were left to govern themselves under a long line of sultans and occasionally sultanas. The British, who had been Maldives' last colonial power, continued to maintain an air ...

In addition, aid, when offered, was often seen as hopelessly inappropriate, with fishermen being moved to new homes miles inland, or entire villages being relocated to new and often unsuitable sites. Until 4 months ago, Anna was living in aforementioned ...
Negombo, Sri Lanka jamieparkins... and the owner Lale also owns accomodation, and Indie who works in the restaurant will gladly let you watch the English Footie matches too!! A great place to visit on a Holiday, and again, i cannot believe how lovely the people are, and we are getting used to eating in Restaurants and going back 2 days later to pay!!!!! But it is the courage that the locals have after the Sunami and their attitude to life and friendship that makes the place, they are all so happy and positve.
Unawatuna, Sri Lanka littlelow... his guitar with him which was a novelty as it's usually unaccompanied. It was the turn of the Oasis Hotel today for lunch. This time we weren't joined by a cobra which is always a bonus! The builders completed their hut today and tonight will be their first night in it. If workers have a way to travel, instead of going home, they build a makeshift hut to live in! Rather them than me - although it looks very impressive but ...
Hambantota, Sri Lanka carjack83... in Sigiriya village for a couple of nights, watched the Sri Lankan cricket team beat New Zealand in the world cup semi-final with the locals at the hotel and Matt, Helen, Derek & Maureen, a few friends we're travelling with. Next day we went to Polunnaruwa, the ancient capital of ...
Colombo, Sri Lanka adrian.gfc... as Asian women? These are excellent venues for theologising, as we relate what we have seen and heard to what is going on in our own countries. Everybody brings the reality of her own country. Here, we've had too many papers. We have our own experiences, and we aren't able to enter the experiences cited in the papers. Kochurani: How much time do we give for bringing in the lived context? Angela: I speak from a position of belonging and not belonging. I have heard ...
Colombo, Sri Lanka lizaresandreaWe have now left India, and entered another country on our itinerary, and it's just hit us that we are actually travelling round the world, not just round India. It's so exciting to be in a new place with the prospect of discovering how it works and what it's like. We took a flight from Trivandrum airport and everything went amazingly smoothly. We left our hotel in Trivandrum at 7.30am and were swimming in the sea ...
