After Michael had given us a great run down on the city, we headed off.
First stop was the Brewery for Pilsner
Urquell, one of two massive industrial facilities in Plzen, the other being the
Skoda factory that used to make weapons and now makes trains (some links to the
cars, but only in name - Mr Skoda started the factory, but never made a car).
... a bit over the heavy Czech food, so we tried a Mexican restaurant, which turned out to be really good!
The next day we took it easy in the morning, and after a healthy salad for lunch sitting in the park, and another walk along the lovely stream in town, headed for the big gates of the
Pilsner Urquell brewery. We joined a tour which was a bit overcommercialised and pretty standard as far as brewery tours go, but it ...
... agreed that this was the best dish of all and I certainly thought it was too. The warm food was a contrast to the storm outside.
From lunch we found the summer castle. Skies had cleared so it was perfect timing.
The castle was closed for the day but the gardens were quite beautiful. We wandered about for some time before heading down the path to some Hungarian Coffee, a coffee with egg liquor.
Time to get back to Amberg and watch the world ...
... Currently in a town in the Czech republic called Pilzen. Arrived at 6.30 pm after a total of 420 miles on the road, pretty much most of it in the rain.
Highlight of the day was watching some guy trying to kick start a Harley at a petrol station....I'd have told him where he was going wrong but he was bigger than me.....he'd never have cought me on the bike though.....
