We were hoping to find a campsite tonight (as I smell) and found one
called 'Camping Ch-ti'mi'... And I think it was a joke as it was
really 'Camping ******** me' as we could not find it ANYWHERE! So the
Aires again it was!
... so really cool as aspects of Medieval
Architecture, right up to the 19th Century. Very grand and outside on
the roof is a maze of wonderful turrets, chimneys etc. We said it was
where the fairies lived and Ella loved it, big discussions as to
whose was whose room! Another plus for the low season, this is packed
during the summer, but we practically had the chateau ...
Once again a lazy start to the day but eventually we got on the road to Amboise! This is a very very pretty town with a lot more upmarket troglodyte living! Very hip. But the main highlight here was 'Clos Luce' Leonardo's last home for 3 years of his life which was a big ...
... had over 3 glasses...and that's before 11am! He took us through the incredible caves where barrels are left in a perfect temp to age. Really fantastic as it was a Chateau and all the stone was quarried from those caves, leaving tunnels and smaller homes, still had all the alcoves for pigeons to use as messengers. We got to our campsite nice and early to chill...this moving about can be hard ...
... all been great. I is perfectly placed again (good research!) between the station and the old town and near the cathedral and gallery. So after we checked in that was we did, of course - the cathedral and the museum! St Gatien is called a show stopper but in fact looks in needof repair. It has amazing triple flying buttresses and old, rich windows. There was an organ and vocal concert happening so we sat for a while and enjoyed that. ...
